  • Progress made towards integration with ELAN in terms of time alignment data.

Export enhancements

Organizing texts

  • You can now choose which Texts to include in concordance searches, lists of words and listed in the Texts list. This choice is presented by Genre then text title.

Statistics

Zero-width spaces

Concordance enhancements

  • Dictionary view now has Bidi support – Where you would normally just put a space, if it might be between two pieces of LTR text that should be ordered with the first one on the right, you need the three-letter sequence RLM, space, RLM, where RLM is the Unicode character U+200F, the Right-to-left marker.

Pathway 1.0.2 sprint candidate release

Pathway - Fri, 12/02/2011 - 00:40
  • Features
    • TD-1662: changes for removing examples without audio and staging Cherokee sample data at http://pathway.sil.org/cherokeedemo
    • TD-2686: Only display PrinceXml if the user has installed it.
    • TD-2758: Create Table in LibreOffice
    • TD-2778: sanitize title and copyright string in title page to avoid crash.
  • Errors fixed
    • Fill out comments for epub.
    • TD-2775: fix title page line-height for h1. Also cleaned up wrapping in CreateCoverImage – the max width could be beyond the width of the image.
    • TD-2783: ConvertNestedDiv.xsl cleans up flex xhtml export so that is passes validation. It removes divs nested in spans and removes the ids of spans that are duplicated.
    • TD-1475: Report error when unable to export windows environment .
    • TD-2677: Crash, clicking on different “Stylesheet” when currently it’s processing Previewing on other one.
    • TD-2734: Synonyms are being lost
    • TD-2754: skip block in FixInvalidXhtml if working with scripture data. This will most likely just move the exception for Mark’s data set.
    • TD-2755: comment out workaround to LT-11509; there’s something weird going on with the multiple calls to StreamReplaceInFile that might be leaving the temporary files open too long or calls from another process?. FixInvalidXhtml ends up getting called 6 times during OOo export.
    • TD-2755: remove fix up that were causing crashes by holding on to files.
    • TD-2745: Remove space between verse numbers and the verse text – LibreOffice and Prince
    • TD-1662: fix problem with Chrome & other webkit based browsers like Safari on the ipad
  • Header
    • TD-2728: Header displays as box characters
    • TD-2771: Page number doesn’t appear properly in libreoffice
  • Picture
    • TD-2658: Picture is appear out of margin when Single Lexicon entry have multiple pictures and blank space is appear between pages.
    • TD-2726: Position Pictures in InDesign on right edge of column
    • TD-2742: Make picture size based on column and page width – LibreOffice and Prince
  • Root based dictionaries
    • TD-2734, TD-2776, TD-2777, TD-2780, TD-2781: Remove broken links from XHTML export Also remove OpenOffice_OLD from solution.
    • TD-2779: fix some spacing issues with root-based dictionaries.
    • TD-2783: Add ApplyXslt project for use in applying custom style sheets in BeforePwConvert process.
    • TD-2783: Transform was removing all links. Now it only removes broken links.
  • Writing System
    • Font embedding work. Added a new method to FontInternals, IsFreeFont, that checks the copyright string for known redistributable licenses GPL, OFL, CC. This call is used by the epub export to embed known freely redistributable fonts.
    • More epub font embedding stuff — modify the font warning dialog so that users can select any freely redistributable font, not just ones from SIL. Also fixed a bug where the default cover image wasn’t getting picked up in the .epub file.
    • TD-2732: Font process refactoring
    • TD-2733: Add a WritingSystemStore variable to Pathway key in registry.
    • TD-2733: add WritingSystemStore to Linux installation script
    • TD-2752: crash in Configuration Tool when clicking on Properties tab. The problem here is that the <>StyleSettings.xml file values are stored in the English Locale, but there are several calls to .Parse that just use the default cultureInfo. This needs lots of work.
    • TD-2754: for non-English locales, the Parse commands can throw FormatExceptions. Using the en-US CultureInfo object on the Parse commands fixes this, so that French locales parse the margins, etc. correctly. Also fixed an area where a crash in OO export was causing the columns.xml file to not get closed out properly.
    • Writing system wackiness – new method, Common.GetLDMLPath, to poke in the registry looking for the WritingSystemStore string. If it can’t find it, fall back on the Environment.SpecialFolder.CommonApplicationData folder structure like it used to.

You can download the latest version here.

Pathway 1.0.1 sprint Candidate release

Pathway - Thu, 11/17/2011 - 18:23

These are the changes in this sprint release…

  • Common
    • TD-2702, TD-2703, TD-2704: call PSExport methods from PathwayB to launch the export process (same calls as FLEx and PT make). This makes sure the CSS gets merged properly and the appropriate stylesheet is selected. Also added a flag (-s) to show the ExportThroughPathway dialog, so that users can select their own output / stylesheet if desired.
    • TD-2729, TD-2459: remove hard-coded copyright info phrase from PreExportProcess.GetCopyrightInfo().
    • TD-2716: out of memory and TD-2513: “Reference source not found” error message in exported file.
    • TD-2700: New Akosse concerns
    • Modified the User Local environment path for Dictionarystylesettings.xml
    • Disable Redo/Undo code for CT bug
    • TD-2664: Crash while clicking on Export button from the Export Window in Windows 7 OS
    • TD-2710: Move settings folder
    • Work around to make homograph numbers subscripted in reversal until Flex fixes its xhtml export bug.
    • Modified the stylesettings.xml file inserted the node for organization.
    • Replace hard-coded path separator chars in GetFiledWorksPath (sic) with calls to Path.DirectorySeparatorChar.
    • TD-2519: allow “counter(sense, disc)” to remain in the CSS file, so bulleted senses format properly.
    • TD-2676, TD-2690: Linux – clicking on Preview tab crashes the Configuration Tool
    • TD-1730: “Save as” button does not working after click on 5 times.
    • TD-2730: ValidateDefaultPrintVia() had some old wording for OpenOffice that was causing the settings validation to fail if the user selected PDF and then restarted the configuration tool.
    • TD-2713, TD-2723: exception thrown when using illegal xml chars in organization name. Encoded the organization name string AND ALL metadata string values. Also backed out some changes to the select organization dialog and added some better comments to explain the logic flow (the select org dialog should only appear once when you first run Pathway).
    • Update and simplify ReadMePw.rtf to reflect current realities and issues that the user can understand.
    • TD-2714: added TE_XHTML-to-epub_XHTML.xslt and punct_XHTML.xslt to the SE installer.
    • TD-2750: Bootstrap prototype for latest Versions of Fieldworks and Paratext
  • E-Book
    • TD-2708: extra brackets in reversal index fields; the xslt to fold the CSS content into the xhtml was getting run twice on the reversal index fields. Also fixed spacing for the .pronunciations class.
    • One more style: sense-complexform-form.
    • TD-2707: add spacing styles for pronunciation, etc.
    • TD-2706: optimization for gigantic epub exports. 1.5 hours down to 30 minutes for Greek dictionary data for Ron M. Also split out dictionaries into 100K files, similar to what we do for scripture data.

  • InDesign
    • TD-2725: NKOu3 crashes on export from Paratext and TD-2724: Nkonya export to InDesign crashes
  • Libre Office / Open Office
    • TD-2748: Crash on Reversal export to Open Office
    • TD-2736: Use FontName from XHTML meta tag information
    • TD-2735: Indic Issues
    • TD-2717: extra space before homograph
  • Web
    • TD-1662, TD-1663: convert Cherokee via ExampleTable.xsl and Xhtml2Blog.py to create web site with navigation and weighted searches.

Pathway 1.0.0 release candidate

Pathway - Thu, 11/03/2011 - 15:35

As part of the process of getting ready for the first official release, this sprint release (after 0.7.12) has been given the 1.0.0 version number. It is our release candidate. A branch has been made of the source and while ongoing development will take place on the trunk, if there are changes that need to be part of the stable release, they will go into the branch.

After the test team completed their exploratory tests, this sprint has been about fixing any issues they identified. These are the issues that were addressed:

  • TD-2078: space between lines of the Main title is too much
  • PathwayB can accept USFM input but Styles are not getting merged properly.
  • TD-2465: XeLaTeX / format Table of Contents
  • TD-2245: font-variant: normal;
  • TD-2702: dictionary with a reversal index working from the command line.
  • TD-2704: more unit test setup; also changed the command line interface to handle multiple input files, other input types. USX/USFM/Paratext bundle are not implemented yet.
  • TD-2700: Settings issue is fixed
  • TD-1750: “Run time error” while exporting pathway in Paratext 7
  • TD-2701, 2692: changed spacing for grammatical-info, partofspeech and other styles. Spacing is set to 0.5em, to increase with the font size rather than the width of the screen.
  • TD-2265: Verify space between words implemented
  • TD-2147 – display: none;
  • TD-2647 — add more error reporting / collection code to Go Bible output and SubProcess class. I’m unable to reproduce the exact scenario described in this defect.
  • TD-2699: AboutPw dialog version info. Use Assembly.GetCallingAssembly() to find the version info of the Pathway modules instead of the executing assembly (which could be FieldWorks, Paratext, etc.).
  • TD-2679, part 2: instead of using the unicode up / down arrow character in the more / less button, use up/down images from the open source Tango project.
  • TD-2666: Picture still shown in the document after disabled the picture option while using the custom stylesheet
  • TD-2696: Macro changed for FlexRev.odt so it takes less time to open
  • Add tableofcontent custom TeX macro and the standard setspace TeX macro for controlling interline spacing. Update the TeX setup script to handle zero length hyphen files.

The sprint release can be downloaded from the normal latest release location.

Adapt It 6.0.1 bug fix is now available

Adapt It Newsfeed - Sat, 10/29/2011 - 22:55

Adapt It WX version 6.0.1 bug fix update (24 October 2011) is now available for Windows and Macintosh.

Windows and Mac OS X installers are now available from the Downloads page at: http://adapt-it.org/download.

Here is a list of the bugs that have been fixed in 6.0.1:

  • Adapt It was not preserving the \id marker when working in collaboration with Paratext and a chapter 1 document was selected for adaptation. It would send the text back to Paratext OK but the \id marker would be missing, causing all the markers in Paratext’s standard view to turn red. A work around was to add the \id marker back manually within Paratext (in unformatted view). This is now fixed in 6.0.1.
  • Collaboration with Paratext would fail on machines running 64-bit Windows. A fix was made to the rdwrtp7.exe utility that Adapt It uses to transfer collaboration texts between Paratext and Adapt It, so the utility now should work on either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows systems.
  • If the user put a tick in the “Force Choice For This Item” check box in the mode bar, it would stay checked instead of automatically clearing when the phrase box moved to the next location. This is now fixed.
  • The Linux version in some distributions would crash after making a change and clicking OK in the Preferences dialog.
  • The Linux version in some distributions would not run but would issue a run-time error about a symbol not being found.

Note: We are still working on some problems in the Linux version. We’ve solved the problems listed above, but we are still working on some other problems that only show up in the Lucid based Balsa system. The Linux packages with version 6.0.0 that are currently in the packages.sil.org directory are broken and should not be used until we can replace them with 6.0.1 bug fix packages for Linux that include fixes for the remaining Balsa system problems.

Adapt It 5.2.5 is now available

Adapt It Newsfeed - Sat, 10/22/2011 - 22:18

Concurrent with the 6.0.0 release, the Adapt It team has also made version 5.2.5 available in the downloads section of the Adapt It website here: link.

The 5.2.5 release is is a bug fix update, intended as the official transition version for users upgrading from any previous version to Adapt It version 6.0.0. The main feature of version 5.2.5 is its ability to read and convert the new xml data format used by Adapt It version 6.0.0 and future versions. Version 5.2.5 also contains additional bug fixes that have been discovered and back ported from version 6.0.0.

Recommendations:

  • If you have never used Adapt It before, you should install version 6.0.0.
  • If you are upgrading, you should install version 5.2.5 before installing 6.0.0.
Bug fixes in 5.2.5
  • Fixed a bug that would cause book folder mode to switch OFF if the user clicked on the “< Back” button in the Start Working Wizard.
  • Fixed the command-line option -frm which had been broken for some time. The -frm option allows Adapt It to be started and forced to stay in
“reviewing” mode. Some want this options for use during the creation of back back translation texts.
  • Interlinear Exports to RTF have now been revised to be more compatible with OpenOffice and LibreOffice.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur if the Preferences… dialog is called after Cancel of the File Dialog when selecting a new document for
    input into Adapt It.
  • If an administrator sets up a custom work folder Adapt It now asks the administrator whether the custom work folder is to be locked in for permanent use. Previously the administrator would have to explicitly select the “Lock Custom Location” item on the Administrator menu to make the change permanent.
  • If the user Cancels from the dialog used to set up a custom work folder, any loaded project and document now stays open. Previously the
application would close the project and document even if the user cancelled from the dialog.
  • Fixed the annoyance of sometimes having to click twice on the Cancel button of the Choose Translation dialog.
  • The list of projects in the Project Page of the Start Working wizard is now sorted which provides a better appearance of the project list in the Linux version.
  • Fixes a screen refresh problem on the Mac which occurred in conjunction with switching the layout between RTL and LTR.
  • Changed the “Exit” menu label to “Quit” for the Mac version.
  • Changed the way Adapt It finds any installed version of the SIL Encoding Converters’ ECDriver.dll file.

Enjoy!

The Adapt It team

Adapt It 6.0.0 is now available

Adapt It Newsfeed - Mon, 10/10/2011 - 07:16
Adapt It WX version 6.0.0 10 October 2011 is now available for Windows and Macintosh.

The Linux Debian packages for 6.0.0 will be available in a few days.

Windows and Mac OS X installers are now available from the Downloads page at: http://adapt-it.org/download.

Here is a sampling of major new features in Adapt It 6.0.0:

  • A Help_for_Administrators.htm document is now available from the Administrator menu (and from the Start Menu on Windows). This help file provides step-by-step Help designed to help administrators set up Adapt It’s main new features described below.
  • Automatic Paratext and Bibledit data collaboration. No more exporting and copying of files manually back and forth between Adapt It or Bibledit! Administrators can now easily set up Adapt It to automatically collaborate with Paratext or Bibledit.
  • Source text exported from a document can now be edited outside of Adapt It, and then imported back into the same document using a new command “Import Edited Source Text…” on the Export-Import menu. The import automatically merges any new source text into the appropriate places in the document. Material that is unchanged retains all the adaptation information associated with it, but material that is new or altered appears as unadapted “holes” ready for adapting. The document may then be saved manually if the result is satisfactory. The Collaboration with Paratext or Bibledit feature always automatically does a merger in this way each time it gets the source text from the external editor.
  • User Workflow Profiles support. Default user workflow profiles are provided for Novice, Experienced, Skilled, and Custom users. Each of these default user profiles can be further customized by the administrator to hide or make accessible more than 60 interface elements including many of Adapt It’s menu bar items, mode bar items, tool bar items, and Preference tab pages. Administrators can utilize this new feature to reduce complexity and/or confusion for new users, and offer an effective means of introducing features only as they are needed by team members.
  • Protection from navigating the file system is now available for all types of inputs and outputs. Never again loose files or forget what they are named or where they are saved! Administrators can now designate which types of inputs and outputs should be automatically obtained from or saved to pre-defined folders controlled by Adapt It. When such protection is ON, files are automatically named to reflect their content with a date-time stamp to keep them unique, and automatically saved in special folders designed for the handling of inputs and outputs.
  • Adapt It now provides a Guesser function which attempts to guess the adaptation for source words or phrases which currently have no translations stored in its knowledge base. The Guesser is statistical so it suggests guesses only after a knowledge base has sufficient data in it to make relatively accurate guesses. The Guesser is ON by default but can be turned off or its settings adjusted easily by clicking on the new toolbar icon to the right of the Print toolbar icon. When a guess has been placed in the phrase box the background color of the phrase box turns to an orange color (the color can be changed in the Guesser Settings dialog).
  • Secure Email Reporting. Adapt It can now send secure email directly to the developers to Report a Problem or Give Feedback. (1) Report a problem… is a menu item on the Help menu which provides a dialog containing a partially filled in report form which can be edited to provide developers with details and/or how to duplicate the problem. Send the report email from within Adapt It with the click of a button. (2) Give feedback… is a menu item on the Help menu which provides a dialog containing a partially filled in report form which can be edited to provide the developers with information on how Adapt It is being used – including successes and/or failures; features of Adapt It that are helpful/not helpful; what features could be improved or added to make Adapt It a better software tool and so on. • The Export-Import menu now supports exporting the knowledge base in LIFT format, and importing data to the knowledge base from a LIFT format file. KB export as LIFT xml is now optional, the older KB export in the form of \lx & \ge fields is still the default type of export and recommended for KB backups. LIFT exports can be done via selecting the type of export at export time. Exporting the KB in LIFT format only exports source text and adaptation (or gloss, if exporting when in glossing mode), and all datetime and other information in the KB is not preserved, whereas exports of the KB in standard format preserves datetime and other KB information.
  • Additional “white space” characters are supported in the Unicode build, which means that when parsing in source text the presence of any of these characters will result in a word break:  NBSP (non-breaking space) U+00A0, or in Adapt It Regular, hex A0 U+2060 WJ (Word Joiner)  Plus each of the special spaces or joiners in the range U+2000 to U+200D inclusive.
  • Words and phrases in the target text which differ from the source text immediately above them are given a different colour. The colour used is setable from the Preferences / Fonts page.
  • The Consistency Check function (from the Edit menu) has been completely revised and simplified.

… plus many more features, bug fixes and improvements. See the Adapt It changes file for more details.
