Lots of promise

Documentation: 4/5

Documentation via the web wiki us reasonable and a new user can get up and running fairly quickly.

Ease of Use: 2/5

Some things seem to be counter-intuitive - or is that because I've been using Adobe Pagemaker too long? One thing publisher users will HATE is that this program forces you to use paragraph styles - this is a good thing but it will take publisher users some time to get used to it.

Reliablility: 3/5

Seems mostly stable however there are several quirks. For example in ver 1.3.3.14 attempting to place the mouse cursor in the first line of a paragraph proved impossible in a recent document - I had to place the cursor in the second line of the paragraph then use the keyboard arrow keys to move it back to the first line in fact getting the cursor (mouse or text) to go anywhere one wants it to go is fraut with inconsistency in results. Again, in 1.3.3.14 run-around a text box doesn't allow a 'flexible' run-around frame although it is supposed to and text only runs around part of the text frame - again inconsistent results.

Features: 2/5

The program has impressive features but booklet production is missing making it not so useful for literacy programmes. I have given it a low overall score because of inconsistent performance in the user interface - something new users are going to find incredibly frustrating and will most likely make them likely to move back to their cozy windows environments.

General comments

I think this software has lots of promise. At the present it seems a bit 'clunky' at times and very professional at others. I am aware the developers are aiming at producing a product which is will produce professional quality results however, often those kinds of tools require professional quality training to master them. One notably missing feature so far is that of printing to a booklet - something that ms publisher provides and a reason people I know of have stuck to using publisher rather than using this tool (as of ver 1.3.7, 1.3.3.14).
